Why Tammy Abraham Chose To Join AS Roma Over Arsenal

Tammy Abraham moved to Roma from Chelsea this summer for an estimated fee of 36 million pounds, and he has settled very quickly. In seven Serie A games for Jose Mourinho, the 24-year-old Englishman has contributed five goals (2 goals and three assists), as well as two goals in two UEFA conference league matches, already demonstrating more form than he could sustain at Chelsea.

He's also struck the frame of the goal SIX times for the Serie A club, indicating that his goal-scoring record could improve even more in Rome. His outstanding form earned him a late call-up to the England squad by Gareth Southgate after he was initially left off the squad list, and he will be seeking to add to his six caps for the Three Lions during the international break.

Tammy Abraham appeared to be on his way to the Emirates Stadium to join Arsenal, rather than the side from the Italian city, at one time. However, a transfer was on the way, and Abraham has now revealed what prompted him to forego the opportunity and instead join Roma. Jose Mourinho, the manager, was clearly a big pull for the youngster, with the Cobham product saying:

"I picked up the phone and he said, 'Do you want to stay in the rain or get some sun?' I had a good laugh. When we were talking, I didn't think much of it at first. I had the mentality that I wanted to play in the Premier League. Being in the vicinity of London and England made me feel at ease. When he speaks, though, you pay attention. He is a terrific man who has aided me greatly thus far, and perhaps we can continue to do so. I had a number of choices. But when I spoke with Jose, I could tell he had a purpose in mind; I could see where he wanted Roma to go, and I wanted to be a part of it."

Will Chelsea regret allowing Tammy Abraham to leave London, despite the fact that the contract reportedly includes a buyback clause? However, it is unclear whether Abraham's excellent form will continue or if it will gradually decline in the future.
