Rivers visit: You lack moral right to speak against corruption, PDP to Tinubu

Following president-elect Bola Tinubu’s declaration that his administration will make corruption less attractive, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has told him that he cannot speak on the issue.

Nigerian Tribune report that, A statement from Tinubu’s camp after his commissioning of some judiciary projects in Rivers State, had quoted him saying: “You don’t expect your judges to live in squalor, to operate in squalor and dispense justice in squalor. This is part of the changes that are necessary. We must fight corruption, but we must definitely look at the other side of the coin.

"You must be concerned for the welfare of your judges if you don't want them to be crooked. You don't want them operating in risky situations. Wike received praise from Tinubu for his forethought in ensuring the greatest living and working circumstances for judges and magistrates. He stated that the governor had sufficiently supported the battle against corruption, notably in the courts, by making such a provision.

However, the PDP's national publicity secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said at a news conference on Friday in Abuja that the party, as well as all sane Nigerians, are concerned, scandalised, and embarrassed by Tinubu's statement.

Nigerian Tribune report that, He asserts that "this statement by Senator Tinubu is completely sacrilegious and an assault on the sensibility of Nigerians, having regards to his records of alleged corruption and having been variously described as an embodiment of corruption in his public life."

He claimed that Senator Tinubu's promotion and institutionalisation of corruption as a form of government while he served as governor of Lagos State was known to the public.

Nigeria Tribune report that, "It is on record that Senator Tinubu is alleged to be deeply involved in the infamous cases involving Alpha Beta Consulting Limited and Alpha Beta LLP, which are allegedly owned and controlled by him and through which over N100 billion belonging to Lagos State was reportedly stolen through dubious tax collection deals," the PDP spokesman continued.

"It is also widely known that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been accused of engaging in widespread claims of corruption and collusion in order to declare Senator Tinubu the victor of the February 25, 2023 Presidential election. Today, Nigerians and people all over the world believe that proclamation was the result of the APC and its presidential candidate corrupting the Law, Institutions, and the Process.
