The former Belgium national team coach and new Portugal national team manager, Roberto Martinez has reacted after he gave Cristiano Ronaldo an invitation into the national team in his first call-up ahead of the next Euro qualifiers.
Cristiano Ronaldo who has done pretty well for the Portugal national team courtesy of his level of consistency has been capped in each of the last twenty years (2003 to 2022), and has also been able to maintain the status quo by being in the list of Roberto Martinez's first squad.
Cristiano Ronaldo with the invitation will now be making his return to the squad after his disappointment in the last FIFA World Cup tournament held in Qatar, where he literally fell out of favour under then manager Fernando Santos who dropped him to the bench in some of their games with a high level of dissatisfaction written all over him in each of the occasion.
After Portugal's exit from the competition, many felt it might be the end of the road for the five times Ballon D'or winner as age is not really on his side again, but the reverse is the case as many were left surprised after he surfaced in the list of invited players by the new coach.
Roberto Martinez while clarifying his reason behind the invitation of Cristiano Ronaldo in the squad, he made it known that the forward enigma is a very committed player who can bring experience and as such remain an important figure for the team.
His reaction as made known by highly respected Italian Sport Journalist, Fabrizio Romano with a post via his verified Twitter handle was capped with the fact that he doesn't look at age as the Real Madrid legend is now 38 years of age.
"Cristiano Ronaldo is a very committed player. He can bring experience and is a very important figure for the team. I don't look at age".
