The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami, says on the day of the presidential and national assembly elections, over 12.9 million cyberattacks within and outside Nigeria were recorded in the election poll.
He further stated that the attacks were successfully blocked by different agencies of government charged with the responsibility of protecting the nation’s cyberspace.
According to him, during the period of the election, over 12.9 million cyberattacks were recorded on the 2023 presidential election poll. A series of hacking attempts were recorded, including distributed denial of service (DDoS), email and IPS attacks, SSH login attempts, brute-force injection attempts, path traversal, detection evasion, and forceful browsing.
The cybersecurity center established under his ministry, including the National Information Technology (NITDA) Computer Emergency Readiness and Response Team (CERRT), the Nigerian Communications Commission’s Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT), and Galaxy Backbone’s Security Operations Centre (SOC), for which the Minister thanked them for a job well done.
