National Secretary of the Labour Party, Umar Farouk, has insisted that the presidential candidate of their party, Mr Peter Obi is the rightful winner of the February 25th presidential poll conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
It would be recalled that the electoral umpire announced Asiwaju Tinubu as the winner. According to INEC chairman, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu polled 8,794,726 votes to defeat PDP candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and the Labour Party flag bearer, who got 6,984,520 and 6,101,533 votes respectively.
Speaking to Punch Newspaper in an exclusive interview, Umar Farouk said Obi won the election from their own record. According to him, INEC presented a different result before Nigerians.
"We are saying Obi is the winner from the record we have before us. But INEC did something else. They hurriedly carried out the plan of their paymaster." punchng.com quoted Umar Farouk as saying.
Speaking further, he said it the right of his party to challenge the result of the polls.
“Therefore we have every reason to claim victory if it is being denied."
