5 things learnt from Manchester United's victory over West Ham United

When Manchester United play, there is always some sort of drama and the game against West Ham United was no different. It was frantic from start to finish with either team in pole position to steal the win.

But ultimately, United were victorious and here are the 5 things we learned from the match.

1. It was a balanced performance.

Arguably, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have had a rather lackluster start to the season in terms of performance but they very much improved against West Ham. The fact that Scott Mctominay has returned from injury helps the team massively as they are now able to play out from the back more convincingly than they did in the last games.

2. The referee.

We have to talk about the bad refereeing decisions that were very visibly clear during the game. United had 3 penalty shouts all against Cristiano Ronaldo with 2 of them quite convincing. However, Ron Atkinson decided that there was not enough for them to be ruled as penalties only to award one against United which Mark Noble took and De Gea saved.

Atkinson has been the subject of controversy in a United match many times before but nothing stands out as this game against West Ham.

3. Ronaldo scored again.

The Portuguese International has now scored 3 goals for Manchester United since his return to Old Trafford. When he resigned with the club, many people thought he would just be there to score goals, but his work rate has been really impressive. He tracks back and defends while he helps with build up in the midfield.

4. Lingard fixed his mistake.

Jesse Lingard was the scapegoat during the Champions League match against Young Boys as he gave away the ball that led to a goal. He fixed that mistake by grabbing the winner as he came off the bench to try and influence the game.

Lingard brought energy to the game and his ability to travel light in tight spaces in the final third of the pitch changed the whole tempo of the game.

5. Manchester United can win the title.

From what we've seen so far this season, United have a very good chance at winning the league this season. Their main competition would be Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool but they are in pole position to really challenge for the title.

Marcus Rashford and Edison Cavani are still yet to come into the team along with a lack of a defensive midfielder. But they are in a good position so far.
