The caretaker chairman of Takum Local Government Area (LGA), of Taraba State Hon. Boyi Manja, has imposed a 24- hour curfew on the local government area and its surrounding villages over religious killings and wanton destruction of properties.
According to LEADERSHIP NEWS, religious crisis erupted in Takum Local Government Area on Sunday between Muslims and Christians, when two persons were slain at Rafa Kasuwan Shanu along Wukari Road in Takum by gunmen who were dressed in vigilante gear.
Manja while speaking to the media or journalists revealed that he has enforced a 24- hour curfew to avert future fatalities and destruction of buildings and properties within the area.
" I imposed the curfew to stop killings and destruction of properties, this morning. They proceeded to one location with guns and other dangerous weapons, fortunately security officers went and cleared them, " he stated.
A resident of Takum, Mr. Chinyang Danladi, who spoke to our correspondent by phone, said, " there is so much hunger and hardahip as a result of the curfew because people were in their houses and cannot go out to hunt for their daily means of survival" .
" We are all indoors, we never planned for this and it' s not been easy since yesterday, despite the curfew, we are still hearing exchange of gunshots inside Takum, some of our people have ran to take refuge at Ada Barracks, others are hiding at Mammy Market, " he continued.
The media also discovered that not fewer than six persons have been killed in the incident while assets worth millions of naira have been destroyed.
