Two teams that have not conceded a goal from open play in their leagues this season

Open play goals are goals that were not scored from dead ball situations. Dead balls involve handing the opposing team an advantage. The ball is completely stopped before play resumes. That means that goals scored from direct and indirect free kicks, goal kicks, corner kicks and penalties are not open play goals.

With the 2021/2022 still in the early stages, some teams have yet to concede in their respective leagues. Some leagues are in the 4th match day while others are in the 5th. There are 2 teams in Europe that have not conceded from open play this season.

1.Chelsea

In 5 Premier League matches this season, Thomas Tuchel's team has conceded just one goal. That goal came on the 3rd match day in an eventful game against Liverpool. Chelsea conceded a penalty due to a handball foul by Reece James in the penalty box. Mohammed Salah converted to equalise for the Reds.

Since penalty goals are not open play goals, Chelsea is qualified to be on this list. Thomas Tuchel has truly transformed the Blues' defence into one of the best in Europe.

Chelsea has grabbed 13 points from a possible 15 this season and is currently on top of the table. Thomas Tuchel's tactical acumen is largely responsible for the excellence of the Blues defence. His preferred 3-man defence has proven to the best so far. The Blues beat Tottenham Hotspur yesterday to continue their impressive unbeaten run this season.

2. Liverpool

The second team on the list is Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp's men have not conceded from open play this season despite falling to a one-all draw against Chelsea on match day 3. Liverpool conceded from a corner kick against Chelsea. The goal came via a fantastic header from Kai Havertz in the first half.

Since goals scored from corner kicks are not open play goals, Liverpool is qualified to be on this list.

Chelsea and Liverpool have had the exact same scoreline in every Premier League game so far against their opponents this season.
