A joint task committee, a forum comprising members-elect from the 18 major parties, has been constituted in response to the controversy surrounding the selection of Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abass from Kaduna as Speaker and Benjamin Kalu from Abia State as Deputy Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives.
In the interest of the 10th House of Representatives and the country, the organization was created to ease tensions and make peace with resentful candidates.
Following a meeting with the joint task group, Hon. Abass spoke with journalists and expressed his joy at being adopted by the ruling All Progressives Congress, or APC.
He claimed that there is a lot of work to be done because he pledged to make every effort to achieve complete peace in the country.
According to Hon. Benjamin Kalu, who is now the Deputy Speaker designate, "It was a favor done to the South East people that would make the region more popular with the administration in the future.
"The party has begun its election-related strategy by establishing a foothold in the South Eastern region.
"What they did with these nominations, was done with an inclusive mindset. Due to what has happened, the South East will experience the strength of togetherness and be motivated by a sense of national loyalty".
