According to a recent report by the Vanguard Newspaper, a new militant group named Bayan-Men have blown up an oil well owned by Nigeria Agip Oil Company in Rivers State.
The unfortunate incident was reported to have happened in the Ogba-Egbema-Andoni Local Government Area of the state.
Vanguard gathered that the militants claimed the oil company failure to deal directly with the host communities was the reason for the attack.
The commander of the group told newsmen that the oil company should follow the resolution that have already been put in place by the Federal Government or risk further attacks.
In this short piece, let us look at the need for the Federal Government to promptly intervene in the issue to avert any possible further destruction. Follow me keenly.
It is no secret that lots of countries including Nigeria are facing economic challenges in this post-coronavirus era. As a result, many people have been relieved of their jobs.
Now, blowing up facilities that are of economic importance to the country isn't a good thing, not to think of its devastating effect in this current time the nation is not doing that good economically.
People who work at these facilities are likely to be rendered jobless and the rate of unemployment will be on the increase.
And if people are jobless and hungry, they are likely to commit crimes. Nigeria is facing a lot of security challenges at the moment and I'm sure the government wouldn't want want any issue of insecurity to add to these existing ones.
These are reasons the government should promptly intervene in this issue and put necessary measures in place to avert any possible future occurrence of such incidents.
