Messi makes a list of demands to Barcelona president over contract renewal
Lionel Messi has given returning club president Joan Laporta a list of demands he expects to be fulfilled if the club wants him to sign a new contract. The six-time Ballon d’Or winner expects a marquee signing, a long-term commitment to young stars like Pedri and Ilaix Moriba, and open communication with Ronald Koeman and technical secretary Ramón Planes.
The Barcelona captain will be a free agent on July 1, 2020, and the 33-year-old submitted a request to leave the club last summer. After having seen that request denied, he looked certain to leave this close season.
The Argentine is already free to discuss a move with foreign clubs but it has been reported that he is now favouring remaining at the Camp Nou. However, before he would consider signing a new contract, the forward expects the following commitments from Laporta.
Despite the harmonious relationship Messi currently enjoys with Koeman, the club captain would like to retain a direct line of communication with the club’s president, who ran on a ticket of getting Messi to renew his contract.

Barcelona ‘have set their eyes on signing Spaniard - €50m to complete deal
Bryan Gil is now a full Spanish international at the age of just 20. The youngster made his debut for the senior national team in March, facing Greece.
Currently, on loan at Eibar from Sevilla, he’s already receiving attention from other clubs, and that includes Barcelona. Thursday’s edition of AS states the Blaugrana ‘have set their eyes on the attacker and would be tempted to sign him.
Right now his release clause at Sevilla is around €50m it’s thought that should be enough to scare clubs off for the next few months. Sevilla’s Monchi is already thinking about renewal and has been talking to the player’s representatives for several weeks over a new deal.
Should Barcelona interest in Bryan Gil be serious then they need to consider whether it’s worth sinking the blow now before the price goes higher and more competition arrives.
