APC NWC fails to zone N’Assembly leadership seats

At its meeting on Wednesday in Abuja, "the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress was unable to decide how the senate presidency and speakership of the 10th National Assembly would be allocated."

Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the National Chairman of the APC, revealed that, "the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who was away in Port Harcourt at the time of the meeting to inaugurate some projects undertaken by the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, could not be present for the NWC to take a position on the zoning arrangement."

"No less than 18 of the NWC's 24 members were present for the four-hour meeting, which began at around 1 pm and was presided over by Adamu." Source stated.

"The discussion was supposed to put to rest rumors regarding which region will produce the key members of the tenth National Assembly."

The South-East and South-South members thought it was fair to give their regions the Senate Presidency, "but their Northern counterparts are adamant that only criteria related to ability and experience mattered."

After the debate, "the party chairman spoke to reporters and revealed that they had a meaningful discussion, further demonstrating how strong and united the party leadership is."

"The conclusion of our four-hour meeting was that we emerged stronger and more unified than anything, according to Adamu. Today's meeting is not solely focused on the zoning of the National Assembly's presiding officers, as several of you have inquired." According to the source.

"At the meeting held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja on May 2, 2023," the members resolved as follows:

"To run for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker positions in the 10th House of Representatives of the National Assembly."

PUNCH further reported, "That we have decided to establish an 11-man committee to look for a credible and deserving candidate who would run for those offices and then actively seek the unification of Nigerians along ethno-religious lines." Source added.
