US ships and drones should not approach Russian borders — Russian Ambassador to US

Russia envoy accuses <a class=US of fueling Ukraine war with 'crimes against humanity' charge – POLITICO"/>

Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov has stated that American surface ships and drones "have no business" near Russian borders, according to the Russian news agency TASS.

"Most importantly, I believe that US aircraft and vessels have no business near the borders of the Russian Federation," the diplomat told reporters after consultations at the US Department of State, where he was invited following Tuesday's incident with the US MQ-9 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) above the Black Sea.

"Can you imagine a plane or drone of this sort flying over New York or San Francisco?" Can you imagine how the American media and the Pentagon would respond to such a drone?" He went on to say

The ambassador stated again that the MQ-9 is a "multi-purpose war drone capable of carrying 1,700 kg of explosives." Later, he stated that MQ-9 "can carry a couple bombs."

According to the Russian state news agency RIA, Antonov described his conversation as "productive," and the question of possible "consequences" for Moscow was not mentioned.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has portrayed Moscow's "special military operation" in Ukraine as a defensive measure against what he perceives as a hostile West set on advancing into traditionally Russian-ruled territory.

Putin has often maintained that the war in Ukraine was precipitated by the West's attempt to interfere in Ukraine and harm Russia. Ukraine and its supporters claim that Russia wishes to maintain Ukraine inside its sphere of influence and to impose a pro-Moscow dictatorship in Kiev.

Ukraine and its Western allies accuse Russia of waging an unprovoked conquest war that has wrecked Ukrainian cities, murdered hundreds, and caused millions more to abandon their homes.
