The redesign of the naira is still being challenged in front of the Supreme Court, according to Federal Attorney General Abubakar Malami, who also claimed that the Federal government had not violated the court order. Malami argued that the President's decision to only accept N200 notes as lawful cash does not violate the law.
Malami said that even if they had violated the Supreme Court's order, the issue was still being litigated legally and within the framework of the rule of law during a press conference held at the Presidential residence in Abuja and organized by the presidential communications team.
"The fact, clearly, is that we are not in violation of any judgment imposed by the court, including any order linked with the redesign of the naira," he said. No violation has occurred. You went to submit a N1000 or N500 note that was denied, but I don't think I'm a banker, and you didn't go to find out whose bank that is.
The case is still pending even if we broke the Supreme Court's injunction. When an order is made, you have a number of options that fall under the purview of the rule of law because it is being fought before the Supreme Court.
