8 Things To Avoid If You Want To Be Strong And Healthy At Old Age

Undoubtedly, longevity and good health is a blessing from God but our lifestyle plays a role in everything that concerns us. Our lifestyle plays a major role in determining our health and whether we live long or not.

In this article, we want to highlight 5 things we need to avoid or limit it's consumption if we want to enjoy a healthy and long life.

1. Limit sugar consumption.

It doesn't matter whether you are a youth or aging, limiting sugar consumption is key to your determination to live a healthy and long life.

Sugar is a risk factor to almost all the chronic diseases. Nature provided sugar in almost everything we eat. That is enough, added sugar is not necessary; but if you cannot avoid added sugar, limit your intake of foods containing added sugar.

One way to achieve this is by reading the label in every packaged good you buy. Also eat more of home made foods. Most commercially produced foods have added sugar.

2. Quit Smoking.

Smoking is very dangerous to health. It doesn't have any nutritional benefits but it increases your risk of many chronic diseases.

3. Limit alcohol consumption.

Alcohol is another thing that is very dangerous if taken in excess. Excess alcohol consumption for men is anything above two drinks. For women, taking above one drink a day is excess consumption.

A drink of beer is equal to 35 cl of beer.

4. Avoid trans fats and saturated fats.

Trans fats is an industrially produced oil which is used in the production of margarines, mayonnaise, candies,cakes etc. It has been banned by FDA in America and declared by the world health organization as probably carsinogenic.

Saturated fats on the other hand is gotten by consuming red meat, whole dairy products like full cream milk, yoghurt and cheese. These things are nutritious but should be taken in moderation. Avoid fatty portions of meat.

Saturated fats and trans fats are responsible for most cardiovascular diseases. Avoid trans fats and reduce your intake of saturated fats. Instead replace it with healthy omega 3 fatty acids.

5. Limit your intake of processed foods.

Natural or home made foods are by far heathier than highly processed foods. If you have time, take foods prepared at home . Highly processed foods like canned meats,and soups and snacks may contain too much sodium or sugar.

Similarly, processed flour and other snacks derived from it contains little fiber and few minerals and vitamins. A lot of the minerals and vitamins in white processed flour was expended during processing.

6. Stop grudging.

Bearing grudges against people may shorten your life by increasing your unhappiness. One way to achieve this is by reducing your expectations from people.

7. Avoid sedentary lifestyle.

Being active and engaging in physical exercise makes you healthy and improves your physical and emotional wellness.

8. Avoid lack of sleep.

Depriving yourself of sleep can weaken your immune system and shorten your life.
