In an interview with Vogue Arabia, Queen Zaynab, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, revealed how difficult it was to divorce him.
Zaynab revealed this in the interview. “It's interesting to hear that being the first queen to divorce a king outside of Africa is considered a thing,” she says. Making such a decision required a great deal of courage. “I wanted to make a point about what I stood for.”
“At one point during my absence from the King, I had an epiphany,” she continued. So I sat down and talked to myself, deciding to help all oppressed people.”
“I want to raise all the poor,” she said of her eponymous organization, which was founded in 2019 and focuses on assisting domestic violence victims, assisting women in achieving financial independence, and providing scholarships to young girls.
