On March 4, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) submitted a motion on notice asking the Presidential Election Petition Court to alter the directives given to the candidates for the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, respectively, to examine the materials used in the previous presidential election.
In order to reconfigure the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System in time for the upcoming election, INEC is requesting that the court modify the injunction that forbade it from changing the election materials. Atiku and Obi were given permission to analyze the poll documents used by INEC during the February 25 presidential election by the appellate court on March 3.
In response to two ex parte applications submitted by Atiku and Obi, the appellate court's panel led by Judge Joseph Ikyegh approved the assessment of election documents. In the presidential contest won by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, the pair came in second and third, respectively.
To be able to reconfigure its 176,846 BVAS for the March 11 governorship and state house of assembly elections, the commission has filed an application with the court, which NAN has seen.
