After months of absence, Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford is finally back - following his recovery from an injury which has kept him out of action in the new season.
The Englishman made his return for Manchester United in a behind closed doors friendly match against lower league opposition Blackburn Rovers at Old Trafford. The Red Devils emerged 3-0 winners, with Marcus Rashford marking his return in style by scoring two goals in the fixture.
Rashford had returned to full training last week for Manchester United, after missing the first two months of the season following a shoulder operation. This was Rashford's first game since last summer's UEFA Euro 2020 Final.
United supporters will be extremely pleased about Rashford's return and the fact that he was also able to find the back of the net twice. The friendly encounter against Blackburn Rovers has afforded him the chance to get his first unofficial minutes of the new campaign and to show he still has that sharpness in front of goal.
Rashford's return will not only be a huge boost for Manchester United, it is also timely ahead of a very busy set of fixtures. After the international break, the Red Devils will face Leicester City in the Premier League and Italian Serie A campaigners Atalanta in the Champions League. His direct play running at defences offers United a threat going forward - either centrally or on the wings and the team will be more dangerous on the offensive.
Furthermore, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have the opportunity to flex his options in attack, as he will have the complement of the likes of Edinson Cavani, Mason Greenwood, Jadon Sancho, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and of course Cristiano Ronaldo.
Rashford's comeback is heartwarming but caution must be employed, in order to avoid any setbacks. United will have to be careful with his minutes and manage him sensibly.
