Obasanjo, IBB Absent As Buhari, Jonathan Attend Independence Day Ceremony In Abuja (Photo)

Former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida were conspicuously absent during the nation’s 61st Independence Anniversary ceremony at Eagle Square in Abuja on Friday, October 1, 2021.

The colourful event was held at Eagle Square in Abuja and attended by prominent Nigerians, including President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President Ahmad Lawan, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila and other top officials in the country.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan and former military Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar were also present at the event.

Obansajo and Babangida, who are also former presidents, were missing at the important celebration. Former Interim President Ernest Shonekan was also absent at the event.

Obasanjo, who ruled as military Head of State between 1976 and 1979, also served as a democratic president between 1999 and 2007 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The reason why the former presidents were absent at the event is unknown to the public.

Traditionally, the former leaders should also be at the event irrespective of their political affiliations.
