Nigerian and Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen scored the goal that was enough to lead Napoli to their first Scudetto in 33 years as they played out a 1-1 draw against Udinese at the Stadio Friuli on Thursday May 4th 2023.
The Hosts, Udinese opened the scoring in the 13th minute through Sandi Lovric wonderful strike which beats Napoli goalkeeper, Alex Meret.
The Visitors continue to push for the equalizer until Napoli highest goalscorer for the season, Victor Osimhen scores in the 52nd minute which makes him the first African to score 22 goals in a single Serie A season breaking Cameroonian forward record, Samuel Eto. The goal also makes him equals Liberia ‘George Weah record as the highest goals scored by an African (44 goals) in Serie A History.
Osimhen who has been a focal point of Napoli 2022/2023 season scoring 27goals in 34 appearances and also been known as one of the best strikers on form in the European continent while speaking to the press said “I am overwhelmed right now. It’s an amazing feeling. We’ve waited so many years for this moment and to be able to deliver the Scudetto to the Neapolitans is something we will not forget and it will continue to live in our hearts for the rest of our lives,”
The New Champions of Italy were closed to winning the league in their last game against Salernitana but were held to a 1-1 draw after Boulaye Dia scored an 84th equalizer to delay Napoli celebrations as Champions.
Napoli are currently leading the second-placed team, Lazio with 16 points and five matches to end the 2022/2023 serie A season.
