Barcelona recorded their second Champions League defeat of the season against Benfica. Barcelona are now at the bottom of the group A table after two consecutive losses. Here's the only reason why Barcelona lost to Benfica today.
Ronald Koeman's Failed Tactics
Ronald Koeman completely changed his tactics for today's occasion. He started with five defenders, three midfielders and just two attackers. Memphis Depay and Luuk de Jong wouldn't get the job done alone he needed an attacker to join in. He had Ansu Fati and Philippe Coutinho on the bench but brought them in the second half.
Ronald Koeman played with the same formation he used against Bayern Munich in their opening fixture. Barcelona needed a tactical change, playing with just two attackers isn't helping. Last season, we saw Barcelona play with at least four attackers but it wasn't the case this season. Ronald Koeman is more focused on his defense this season.
Memphis Depay gave in his best in today's match, his teammates failed to create those big chances of scoring for him. Memphis Depay's hunt for his first Champions League goal for Barcelona continued, the Dutchman failed to make it count for Barcelona in today's match.
Barcelona have now conceded six goals in their last two Champions League games, they'll have to win their next group stage fixtures if they want to get through to the next stage of the competition.
