Who Will Tell Governor Ayade That State Library Needs Revamping?

Cross River State is blessed with two professors at the helm of affairs. A professor Governor, and a professor Deputy, Prof. Ivara Ejemot Esu. But is it not an irony that with such level of intellectuals piloting the affairs of the State, the Library is on the verge of collapse, and seriously in need of revamping?

Governor Ben Ayade usually brandishes himself as a grammarian, following his incessant grandiose English, this can be seen even in the nomenclature of the state budgets, yet, library users are constantly in fear of possible collapse when using the public facility.

More worrisome is even the fact that the location of the Library is just adjacent to his private residence and a throw stone from his government house. The Governor, cannot deny not noticing the sorry state of such an important edifice.

The Cross River State library opened on April 17, 1989, It vast serene unused environment used to generate income when rented out for special occasions like wedding receptions, child dedication receptions, birthday receptions, and so many other remarkable events, but now, public users are rather afraid of the collapse of the structure than risk using the environment.

Another December is fast approaching. Calabar Internation Carnival will soon commence in earnest. The state library that is conspicuously positioned along the highway can not hide from the eyes of foreign visitors. What pride then would we share, as the paradise city of Nigeria? Books that are supposed to aid intellectual and educational research are all antiquated and need re-stocking. Yet, we have a professor Governor and a professor Deputy.

Deputy Governor Ivara Esu was an erstwhile Vice-Chancellor of the prestigious University of Calabar, has lectured in various universities across the country, including Ahmadu Bello University, in Zaria in 1984. Does he need to be reminded that the state library needs to be refurbished?

Please come to the aid of the Cross River State Library. We are ashamed of this mess.
