A perineal tear is a tear in the skin between the vagina and the anus. The thin skin normally extends over the baby's head during delivery as it slides down to the vagina and perineum, allowing it to pass. If the skin does not expand far enough, a rip in the perineum may occur.

1 After urination, wipe the vagina with lukewarm water. Using a squeeze bottle, gently spray the affected area with water.
2 Avoid touching the injured area as this can lead to infection.
3 To avoid rupturing the incisions, don't apply too much pressure during bowel movements. For a smooth stool passage, drink plenty of water and eat plenty of fiber-rich foods.
4 To avoid bacteria build-up and infections, change your sanitary pads every four to six hours.

When the baby starts crowning, use a warm compress to the perineum to promote blood flow and minimize severe tearing.
2 Avoid an episiotomy
Episiotomy or the surgical cutting of the vaginal entrance can increase the chance of serious tears because the wound can expand out into a much greater rip as the baby is pushed out.
3 Exercise on a Regular Basis
