This week is when your doctor finds a fetal heartbeat electronically. The normal fetal heart rate ranges from 110 to 160 beats per minute at 12 weeks, which is double the mother's heart rate. At this stage of pregnancy, an ultrasound scan will reveal all of the information and if you can't detect a heartbeat, it means you are a week early.

At 12 weeks, the baby's digestive system is still developing and does not perform any major activities. Although the newborn receives all of its nutrients from the mother through the umbilical cord and the placenta.
