What to expect from being pregnant with twins

There are numerous advantages to having twins to be fair to all of the soon-to-be mothers out there, However, the picture isn't complete unless some of the disadvantages are addressed as well.

Most of the pregnancy symptoms are amplified when you are expecting twins and sometimes, twin pregnancy also comes with its own disadvantage.

Here are some twin pregnancy complications

1 Heartburn

During your early pregnancy stage, hormones are the main cause of heartburn but as the pregnancy progresses, the growing uterus may be regarded as the reason which is why you are prone to severe heartburn because the uterus is usually bigger in a twin pregnancy.

2 Aches and pain

Women who are pregnant with multiples may suffer more from aches and pains because when there are many babies, the uterus grows larger and faster, putting additional pressure on nerves, muscles, and other organs.

3 Carpal tunnel

Swelling and fluid retention are frequent during pregnancy, and the "tunnel" produced by the bones and ligaments in the wrist can become compressed causes tingling and numbness in the arms and hands. In twin pregnancies, swelling and weight gain are more noticeable.

4 Sleep Deprivation

Sleeping soundly is tough in any pregnancy especially in the third trimester when the growing baby makes it impossible to find a comfortable posture and pregnancy symptoms are more noticeable at night which further complicates things. Due to the rapid increase in size during twin pregnancy, you might find yourself in this situation.

5 Bed rest

Being pregnant with twins already puts you at a high risk which is why you might be put on bed rest for a variety of reasons. The most common reason for bed rest is to avoid preterm labor, which occurs considerably more frequently when carrying multiple babies.
