Both sperm count and sperm motility can be the difference between a fertile male adult or a sterile one. Some of the other prominent factors that can lead to infertility in men include low sperm production, abnormal sperm function, blockages that prevent the delivery of sperm. Others include lifestyle choices, illnesses, injuries, and chronic health problems. One or a combination of these factors may make a man unable to father a child.

However, of all these factors, one that is often overlooked by many men is their lifestyle choices and how they can affect their fertility. An integral part of their lifestyle choices often underrated or overlooked by many men is the role played by their diet in the issue of their fertility. As there are certain foods that can help enhance fertility in men, so are so other types of foods that are known to contribute to sterility in men, thus significantly reducing their ability to father a child.

It then becomes important to know some of the foods that can contribute to infertility in men if not consumed in moderation. A few examples of such foods are examined below:

1. Processed Meats

Regular consumption of processed meats such as hot dogs, bacon, and beef jerky is linked to decreased sperm count and the alteration of sperm motility in men, hence are better consumed in moderation by men hoping to someday sire a child.

2. Trans Fats

Foods such as baked goods such as cakes, cookies and pies, microwave popcorn, biscuits, rolls, frozen pizza, doughnuts, and french fries are not just bad for your heart, but also your sperm health as their frequent consumption is linked to decreased sperm counts.

3. Soy Products

Soy products contain estrogen-like compounds known as phytoestrogens, which is found in plants. The excessive or regular consumption of soy products due to the presence of phytoestrogens may decrease sperm concentration.

4. Alcohol

Indulging in heavy drinking can also significantly contribute to infertility in men by leading to lowered testosterone levels, lowered follicle-stimulating hormone, and an increase in estrogen levels, which may reduce sperm production.
