Best Sleeping Positions For Pregnant Women

Becoming pregnant is a thing of joy for so many women in the world. This is because having a child or children is a blessing, and this can not be overemphasized enough. As a pregnant woman, many factors are involved in the overall health of you and the baby. This factors include your diet, environment, habits, and even sleeping position. For sleeping position, which is a very important aspect of pregnancy, doctors generally recommend that pregnant women should sleep on their sides, as time goes on in the pregnancy. The main reason for this medical advice is blood flow. As the baby is getting bigger, there will be need for more blood flow to the uterus. For the purpose of this article, we are going to be looking at the best sleeping positions for pregnant women.


a) Left Side: when a pregnant woman positions herself on her left side to sleep, it allows for normal blood flow from the IVC ( inferior vena cava). Also, when a pregnant woman sleeps on her left side, it reduces the pressure from the liver and kidney, enabling them to function well, help with swelling of the in the hands, ankles, and feet. So as a pregnant woman if you haven't been sleeping on your left side, then you should probably start doing that, to improve your health, and the health of the baby.

b) Right Side: that's right, sleeping on the left side does not mean that sleeping on the right side is bad. In fact, sleeping on the right side is equally as good for the pregnant as the left side. A study shows that sleeping on the right side is good and safe for the body, even though there is a little risk of compression problems with the IVC when you sleep on the right side. But overall, sleeping on the right side is okay for a pregnant woman, but sleeping on the left side is most preferable.
