Akita Inu is the oldest living breed of dog known to man. It is believe to have existed since around 8000 bc and also believed to have first been in Japan. Though the exact date it came into existence is uncertain, archaeological discoveries suggest that a dog called the Matagi-Inu, which is believed to be the Akita’s ancestor, existed between 8,000 B.C. And 200 B.C.
Akitas are named after the Akita prefecture, the northernmost area of the Japan’s main island. The Akita Inu breed is known to be loyal, affectionate, and most of all intelligent. It's height is about 67 - 70cm for male and females are about 58 - 64cm tall. It weighs up to 32 - 39kg for males and females are 23 - 29kg.
The Akita is a bold and willful dog, naturally wary of strangers but extremely loyal to their family. Today they are popular among the mountainous region (s) of Japan.
