Snakes are long, legless or legged, carnivorous reptiles of the suborder Serpentes and are widely distibuted all over the world.
Many species of snakes have skulls with several more joints than their lizard ancestors (close evolutionary associate), which make them able to swallow prey much larger than their heads with their extraordinarily mobile jaws (mouth).
Snake is the only animal that have two reproductive organs (the male reproductive part and the female reproductive part).
Snakes are slithery creatures.
The snakes do play cat and mouse just like humans to find their desirable mate. When a female snake is ready to mate she releases a special scent or pheromone from skin glands on her back.
The two reproductive organs of a male snake act like each testes. The reason the male snakes have two reproductive organs is tied to the fact that female snakes can store sperm for up to five years. Female snakes have control over whether or not to become pregnant after mating.
If there is a large group of male snakes that want to mate with a single female, they will not fight each other or mark territory, but they will rather, at the same time all try to crawl on top of the female and wrap around her.
The female snake has two pockets each are specialised for delayed or immediate reproduction respectively.
The female can mate with numerous males and she can choose which sperm she wants to fertilize her. They do have a litter of babies all from different fathers.
This is the main reason why snakes are found almost everywhere in the world except in the Antarctica.
Female snakes reproduce once or twice a year and depending on the species, they may either give birth to live snakes or lay eggs.
