The Belgian Malinois breed is used as a working dog for tasks including detection of odors such as explosives, accelerants (for arson investigation), and narcotics; tracking humans for suspect apprehension in police work; and search and rescue missions.
In his handover speech, the President K94Cops Nigeria and also The Pastor-in-Charge of RCCG LP 47, Pastor Femi Obaweya ,a well-known lover and trainer of dogs Pastor Femi Obaweya said the donation was driven by the patriotic zeal of members noting that the Nigeria Police Force is the frontline agency for internal security. Other board members present were Messrs Musibau Rufai and Abiodun Idowu.
Receiving the dog on behalf of the Commissioner of Police in charge of (Force Animal Branch), Dr Aishatu Abubakar, The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Force Animal Branch) Mr Idris Nagoyo thanked members of the organisation for the donation noting that the task of securing the nation should be embraced by all stakeholders. He pledged to the welfare and training of the dog in line with the expectations of the donors.
The Belgian Malinios breed in recent times has gained recognition being involved in recent operations in the neutralisation of terrorist leaders Osama Bin Ladin and Abu bakre al Baghdadi.
