Why Former Lagos State Governor Ambode may not be Considered as Replacement for Late Senator Osinowo

The permutation and lobbying for Lagos East vacant Senatorial seat is at the high level among the stakeholders and politicians from the Lagos East Senatorial District of Lagos State.

The lobbying to produce who occupies the seat of Lagos East Senatorial District at the Red Chamber begins among the political gladiators. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has the responsibility within 90 days after the demise of the late senator Sikiru Adebayo Osinowo to conduct election to fill the vacant seat in the Upper Chamber.

Late Sen. Osinowo

Senator Osinowo, the late senator representing the Lagos East Senatorial District had passed on, on15th June 2020. Since the passing of the former lawmaker, different political gladiators have been jostling to take over his seat in the Senate.

There are indications that political parties like the All Progressives Congress APC, and the People's Democratic Party, PDP have been looking for a sellable candidate, who be the flag bearer of their political party in the Lagos East Senatorial zone.

The APC have on the list of the political gladiators from the zone Adeyemi Ikuforiji, former speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly who was Speaker for Lagos State for 11 years who is from the Epe axis of the Senatorial zone. Also, Akinwumi Ambode the former governor of Lagos State who was governor for 4 years is from the Epe as well. There has been a debate that anyone who must occupy the seat should not be from Epe axis of the Senatorial zone.

Rt. Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji

There have been indications from different regions in Lagos State that the person who will occupy the vacant position should not be from Epe axis. This is due to the examples of Ikuforiji and Ambode who have in one way or the other served Lagos State as Speaker and Governor for 15 years put together.

Akinwumi Ambode and Bola Tinubu

Beyond all these, there has also been a valid argument that Kosofe should be made to continue the 4-year term of Late Senator Osinowo, who is also from Kosofe in the senate. However, underground work is currently going on to fill the vacant seat. But one thing is sure, the stakeholders and politicians in the Lagos All Progressives Congress, APC will decide where the candidate will be picked.
