The last has not been heard of the brewing crises in the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Recall after the judgment which confirmed the victory of the Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, some APC stakeholders had noted with dismay, how the party narrowly missed being sanctioned as the authority of the Buni -led national exco was questioned.
The stakeholders had gone ahead to warn the national body to act fast by dissolving the Buni-led committee and asked to immediately set up an alternate leadership in order to save the party from the impending suits which would follow after the judgment.
Among the stakeholders who cautioned the party include the minister of state Niger delta, Festus Keyamo, the Senior special adviser to the president on Niger delta, Senator Ita Enang, and the senior special adviser to the President on political affairs, Senator Babafemi Ojudu among others.
However, in response to the calls for the Caretaker committee's sack, the secretary of the committee, Senator Akpan Udoedeghe has rebuffed the calls for the sack.
According to Udoedehe, the constitution of the APC which approved the appointment of Mai Buni as the caretaker chairman did so with respect to the rule of law, and as such, there was nothing to fear.
He has taken the response a notch higher by threatening some party members to stop every form of agitation on the issue.
In a statement he sent in today, 30th July, Udoedehe had confirmed that the party would go ahead with the scheduled party convention slated for tomorrow, the 31st of July 2021 and that any party member who organized a counter convention would be severely sanctioned by the party.
The party scribe went ahead to share 3 resolutions the party had taken concerning the issue.
1, All pending court cases any party member had against the party should be withdrawn immediately.
2, Any activity that has been scheduled by any party member which would portray the party in a bad light was advised to be stopped immediately.
3, All programs which do not have the express approval of the Buni-led committee should be stopped immediately.
The party vowed to deploy the full weight of the law as enshrined in the party constitution on any member who went against the resolutions.
With this, the party is headed to a collision cause as this fresh verdict will pitch some of the party elders against each other as it is evident the Buni-led committee is bound to go ahead with the convention even after the warning signs from the court judgment and the stakeholders.
