A coalition of 35 registered political parties, under the auspices of the Coalition of Political Parties (PCP), in Edo on Friday supported the re-election of governors Godwin Obaseki and Philip Shaibu for another four years. The chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and CPP in the state, Collins Oreruan, told reporters at a press conference in Benin that the 35 political parties collapsed their structures to support the governor's reelection offer massively.
Oreruan said: "We have resolved that instead of acting as individual entities, it will be more effective to support the governor as a bloc with our existing party structures across the state." We also advise our candidates for governor of our respective parties to withdraw their aspirations and join the governor to consolidate the growth, development legacies and foundations he established in his first term.
"We will work in synergy with the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to mobilize base voters for the governor's reelection.
"We have seen, among others, its positive economic development, the positive industrial revolution, positive global qualitative educational programs and positive agricultural value chains." Orruan noted that under the administration led by Obaseki the state had witnessed a peaceful atmosphere for economic and industrial growth. .
He added that many job opportunities have been created for young people under Obaseki's administration
According to the president of the CPP, the governor's educational and agricultural revolution in the state has attracted praise from national and international communities. Oruruan said that CPP's support for Obaseki is complete and that the coalition will campaign for the governor across the state. He said: “Our support for Obaseki is total, cohesive, progressive and focused on improving the lives of people in the state.
The CPP president has listed some of the political parties including the Social Democratic Party, SDP, the United Nations Party (UPP), the Kowa Party, the Agreement, the Democratic Action Party (ADP), the African Action Congress (AAC), African Democratic Party (ADP)) and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
In addition, PDP vice president of state Harrison Omagbon thanked CPP members for the support and approval of the party candidate .magbon said, "This is a marriage of convenience to ensure the victory of our candidate for governor ".
Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki (born 1 July, 1957 in Benin City, Nigeriais a Nigerian politician and businessman, who is currently serving as the Executive Governor of Edo State.
He was sworn in as the governor on 12 November 2016.He was the Chairman of the Edo State Economic and Strategy Team inaugurated by former Governor Adams Oshiomole in March 2009
"The PDP has chosen Obaseki for its progress in developing the state and its profitability. We are convinced that it will do more in its second term.
Kennedy Odion, president of the United Peoples Party (UPP), who also spoke during the briefing, said that progress in the governor's development informed the parties' decision to collapse the structures to ensure Obaseki's reelection in September.
Obaseki holds post graduate degrees in both Finance and International Business,[5] and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Stock Brokers, Nigeria.
Obaseki served as executive board member of several private companies including Afrinvest.He is the recipient of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) award for best performing Governor of the year in October 2019.
