'Many Northerners Told Atiku To Step Down For Kwankwaso But Atiku Refused To Listen' - Rufai Hanga

The NNPP new Senator Elect in Kano Central and a former member of the APC, Senator Rufai Hanga has alleged that the flag bearer of the NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso didn't scuttle the chances of Atiku Abubakar in the North. He stated that the Northerners have a different perspective to situations as time progresses. He argued that the Northerners do not want an aged man to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari.

He, however, stated that the former vice President refused to listen to their explanation in collapsing his structure for Rabiu Kwankwaso. If you would recall that Kwankwaso had over 700,000 votes in Kano in the last election. Senator Hanga stated that those votes are not waste but a message to the other Northern states that the structure has changed from the past. According to him, the true Northerners wanted a Northern candidate who does not have any baggage to win the last election.

He said, ''Kwankwaso didn't scuttle the chances of Atiku Abubakar. On the other hand, Atiku scuttled his own chances. Let me tell you this, the system has changed over the years, we are out for a competent, credible, and trusted personality this time. Somebody who has done it, somebody who people believe has the capacity and not an old man.

You see, many Northerners told Atiku to step down for Kwankwaso but Atiku refused to listen. If you want a leader that can deliver, you want a clean leader that has no baggage. You get these things in Kwankwaso and he is very educated. Of course, Atiku has tried his best but he should have left the stage when the ovation is loud.''
