There have been rising concerns by Plateau citizens towards the scheduled local government elections to be held tomorrow, 9th September 2021.
Recall that the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) had earlier disqualified the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in participating in the local government election.
This led to a lot of outcries by the Plateau people as some of their favorite candidates will not be able to participate in the election because they belong to the People's Democratic Party.
To this effect, according to a document earlier released today, below are two things Plateau voters can do, in case their preferred candidate is not on the voting list.
1. According to the document, it is provided in the electoral act 2010 that in an event where there is only one nomination ahead of an election, the body should make available to the voters an option of 'YES' or 'NO' for the lone candidate.
By this provision, Plateau voters can come out to vote 'Yes' if they want the lone candidate, or vote 'No' if they don't want the candidate.
Note; according to this provision, the lone candidate must win at least 1/3 of the total votes cast in 2/3 of the wards in that LGA.
