Africa holds the position of the second-largest and second most populated continent in the world and here is a break down of the top 15 countries contributing to that position....

1. Algeria (2,381,741 km²)

Algeria, officially the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, is a country in the Maghreb region of North Africa. Algeria is the 10th-largest country in the world, and the largest by area in the African Union and the Arab world. With an estimated population of over 44 million, it is the 8th most populous country in Africa .

2. Democratic Republic of the Congo (2,344,858 km²)

The Democratic Republic of the Congo, also known as Congo-Kinshasa, DR Congo, DRC (the official acronym), or simply the Congo, is a country located in Central Africa. It was formerly called Zaire (1971–1997). It is, by area, the largest country in sub-Saharan Africa, the 2nd-largest in all of Africa (after Algeria ), and the 11th-largest in the world . With a population of over 84 million, the Democratic Republic of the Congo is the most populous officially Francophone country in the world, as well as the fourth-most-populous in Africa, and the 16th-most-populous country in the world.

Sudan, officially the Republic of the Sudan, is a country in Northeast Africa. Sudan has a population of 43 million (2018 estimate), it is Africa's 3rd-largest country and also the 3rd-largest in the Arab world . It was the largest country in Africa and the Arab world by area before the 2011 South Sudan's secession. It currently holds the position of the 15th-largest country in the world.

4. Libya (1,759,540 km²)

Libya, officially the State of Libya, is a country in the Maghreb region in North Africa. Libya is the 4th-largest country in Africa, and is the 16th largest country in the world. It has a population of over 6 million.

5. Chad (1,284,000 km²)

 

Chad, officially known as the Republic of Chad, is a landlocked country in north-central Africa. Chad is the 5th largest country in Africa and world's 20th-largest country. According to the 2015 estimate, Chad's population is about 13 million.

It is the 12th largest country in Africa and 29th in the world. 2020 estimate pegs the population at over 100 million.

14. Nigeria (923,768 km²)

 

Nigeria, officially the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is a sovereign country located in West Africa. It is the most populous country in Africa with over 200 million citizens. It is the 14th largest country in Africa and 31th in the world.

15. Namibia (825,418 km²)

 

Namibia, officially the Republic of Namibia, is a country in Southern Africa. It has a population of about 3 million. It is the 15th largest country in Africa and 34th in the world.
