President Muhammadu Buhari presided over a security council meeting at Aso Rock on Thursday, October 21, 2021.
During the meeting, Buhari told the service chiefs that nothing must stop the Anambra State gubernatorial election slated for November 6, 2021.
According to the National Security Adviser, Ali Monguno, who spoke with journalists shortly after the meeting, Buhari gave the order to the service chiefs due to the rising insecurity in the state.
Buhari tasked the security agencies to ensure that no individual or group stops the Anambra State gubernatorial election from taking place.
Anambra State has been experiencing a high rate of insecurity in recent times. Unknown gunmen, suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, have been attacking security agents in the state and setting public buildings ablaze.
With the new order given to the service chiefs on Thursday, the following things might happen in Anambra soon.
1. The mass deployment of security agents to Anambra State to tighten security ahead of the election.
A few days ago, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, launched Exercise Golden Dawn in Enugu State to combat insecurity in the south east.
The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, also deployed thousands of police officers to the state a few days ago.
The armed forces and police will double their efforts in Anambra State after the presidential order. Additional troops might be deployed to the state soon.
2. The arrest of hoodlums and other troublemakers across the state. The security agencies will try their best to get rid of trouble makers in Anambra after the marching order given to them by Buhari.
