2023: Why the NEF would not be able to stop the South from producing the next president of Nigeria

The South is insisting that power must return to the South in 2023, saying that there has been a gentleman's agreement between the South and the North since the return of democracy in 1999 in Nigeria. The North and South have been sharing power so that equity will prevail, since Nigeria is a pluralistic state.

After eight years of President Buhari, the South will be producing the next president of Nigeria. The South East is the most favorite to clinch power, since it is the only zone in the South that has not produced the first citizen of Nigeria in this democratic regime. The Igbos are eager to be at the helm of affairs in the most populous black nation in the world. The South has no choice but to support the Igbos if they are truly seeking justice and equity in Nigeria's project.

The North Elders Forum, a group of individuals from the northern states who are regarded as fathers both in age and wisdom about the North and Nigeria, says that any part can produce the next president of Nigeria, that the North is not banned from doing so. Those who are saying this are the same people who have said that power must return to the North since the South has ruled their turn. This was during the last tenure of Obasanjo and during Jonathan's regime.

How come their statements have changed now that the North is supposed to relinquish power to the South? It's assumed that old men should know better than young ones because they are part of history when Nigeria was at war and at peace. Because of their age and experience, they are supposed to be the custodians of peace and harmony in Nigeria. The Yoruba central cultural leadership has cautioned the elders to follow the path of righteousness in judging the political activities in Nigeria. The Ohaneze Ndigbo worldwide leadership has also called out the group for their unguarded statements, saying that they are capable of tossing Nigeria into a political crisis.

Now that the Northern elders are not speaking with decorum and ethics regarding the already existing gentleman's agreement between the South and the North, it's not clear whether they have the support of the entire North, but observers are thinking that such a comment would not have emanated from the men of honor from the north, since they have a level of influence on things regarding the North. Even though their assertions may not be the conclusion of the North,

What do you think would be the reason why the Northern Elders want power to remain in the North against all odds, even against the law of natural justice, history and fairness?
