As we may know, insecurity has been a major challenge in various regions of Nigeria. This is not to say that the Muhammadu Buhari administration has not shown commitment in dealing with the menace.

In the southeast region of Nigeria, the activities of unknown gunmen have persisted over the months despite the efforts of the Nigerian security operatives. The group whose identity has largely remained shady has been behind attacks on government institutions, Political gatherings, and notable individuals, in the southeast region. Most recently, the hoodlums invaded a stakeholders meeting of traditional rulers in Njaba local government area of Imo State, killing 2 of the traditional rulers.

Bearing in mind the dastard attacks by this group, and the need to effectively bring an end to their activities, we have in this article, highlighted 2 things the southeast Governors should do that will cripple their activities:

1. The Southeast Governors should declare a 12 hours curfew for Vehicles in their respective states:

In my opinion, the Governors of the 5 states making up the Southeast region of Nigeria should declare that no vehicle should be seen outside from 6 pm to 6 am.

Declaring a 12 hours curfew for vehicles will help to cripple the activities of unknown gunmen because these hoodlums make use of cars to carry out their attacks. Also, most of the time, their attacks are planned and carried out at odd hours. The unknown gunmen will be easier to track down if vehicular movements are being monitored and controlled by the state authorities.

2. The Southeast Governors should place a bounty on Unknown Gunmen:

In my opinion, the southeast Governors should offer a certain amount of money to whoever comes up with useful information on the identity and base of operation of the hoodlums. This will accelerate the hunt for the hoodlums, thereby crippling their activities.
