How Makinde Can Avoid Clash With Fayose Over PDP Matters In Ekiti State

The Oyo State governor, Mr. Seyi Makinde may need to avoid a highly possible clash with Mr. Ayodele Fayose, a former governor of Ekiti State. Recent political events have evidently shown the rivalry that exists between the camps of the top politicians. It is pertinent for Makinde to avoid a clash.

A logical look at the southwest congress of the PDP and the national convention conducted last month showed that Ayodele Fayose's camp wasn't favoured. His candidate in the southwest congress, Eddy Olafeso, lost to Mr. Taofeek Arapaja. Few months later, Mr. Arapaja was elected as national deputy chairman of the PDP.

The primary election of the PDP in Ekiti State would be another opportunity for Mr. Fayose to reestablish himself and rebuild his structure. It was easier for him to anoint a candidate in 2018. Although it wouldn't be easy this time around, he will want to assert his own authority.

Some politicians have purchased the PDP form. Two of them are Mrs. Abiodun Olujimi and Mr. Segun Oni. No matter what may happen, Mr. Ayodele Fayose would have his own candidate. And he will want to do everything in his capacity to ensure that person clinches the PDP ticket.

On the other hand, Mr. Makinde may want to spread his own webs and networks beyond Oyo State. As the only PDP governor in the southwest region, he will be interested in what happens in the other states chapters of the PDP in southwest.

It will now be clearer that there is a possibility of clashes between Fayose and Makinde in Ekiti State. It is therefore crucial for Makinde to avoid the clash at least for the party's interests.

If the PDP politicians engage in any form of unhealthy rivalry, the All Progressives Congress will cement its presence and retain the state. Of course, the APC is currently in power and it will want to hold the state former. Then, Makinde and Fayose need to work together.

The Oyo State governor should maintain some form of neutrality. Although neutrality isn't always advised in politics, the matter doesn't directly concern or affect the Oyo State governor. Therefore, in order to avoid clash with Ayodele Fayose, he (Makinde) should refrain from the Ekiti State chapter of the PDP.

Meanwhile, as the only PDP governor in the region, he can offer some useful advice and instructions which can help the party to choose a credible and popular candidate.
