Hardly a week can pass in Nigeria without a news that trends on social media about Nigerian politics or its leadership. Sometimes these news are not worth spending time on them but due to the lack of employment among the citizens, the news usually trends for sometime before another topic comes. The news of a 54 year old woman identified as Joi Nunieh who accused the current minister of Niger Delta of sexually harrasing her is the current topic.
The woman in an interview with Arise TV in Abuja on Monday claims that she had slapped the Minister Niger Delta, Dr Godswill Akpabio after he asked her to give him permission to sleep with her which she refused. Mr Joi Nunieh added that because of that refusal, the minister ordered her removal from the Managing Director Of Niger Delta Development Commission and accused her of misappropriation of 140 billion Naira.
However, Dr Godwills Akpabio on Wednesday came out to deny the allegation through his spokesman, Anietie Akong. Mr Akong stated that the claims by former NDDC boss is false and a mere political propaganda and she is just trying to divert the attention of the public from the investigations going on her currently.
Ekong further said Akpabio stopped modern-day slavery in his state, where young women and children were ferried away from the state to other places to be used as housemaids. He said Akpabio finds the allegation as cheap blackmail and wondered why Nunieh never deemed it fit to report the alleged incident to the police if she was really harrassed sexually by the minister.
