The caretaker committee of the All Progressives Congress has come up with a date to conduct the state congresses. The committee headed by the Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni, needs to take two actions or steps ahead of the comgressses. And failure to do so may lead to a poor congress.
Barring all unforseen circumstances, the congresses would hold on 2nd October, 2021 and the party would need to have newest chairmen at the states. But prior to the stated date, the All Progressives Congress had conducted congress at the wards and local government areas across the country. And there were issues that arose from the exercises in some key states of the federation.
For instance, there were clashes at the popular APC secretariat in Osogbo, the Osun State capital over the exercise. As a matter of fact, Osun State APC seems to be divided into two unequal groups and each of the factions is struggling to have full control of the party. This is leading to unhealthy rivalry.
Before the state congresses, the APC needs to reconcile some top members in each of the state chapters where there are issues. To beore specific, there are some states in which APC is suffering from leadership crisis which is quite inimical to the success of the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The Osun State APC is divided and the national leadership of the APC needs to unite or reconcile Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, who currently heads the ministry of interior and the incumbent governor of the state Gboyega Oyetola. Loyalists of the two men have been slugging it out and if the APC leadership doesn't act on time, the forthcoming state congress may be violent in the state.
The same thing is applicable to the Kwara State chapter of the party. Mr. Lai Mohammed, minister of information and culture is at loggerheads with the Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazak. Each of them wants to be the main political force in Kwara State. They need to be reconciled.
The second thing is that the issue of Delta State chapter of the APC can't be swept under the carpet. A court based in Delta State had ruled that the national caretaker committee of the APC should stop parading themselves as the leader of the party. The matter affects Mai Mala Buni specifically and whatever he does may be invalidated.
A chieftain of the APC in Delta State, Olorogun Elvis Ayomanor, led few other officials to court which made a ruling. The matter can't just be overlooked because it portends serious problems for the ruling party. Note that if the matter isn't withdrawn or settled, whatever congresses at the state level may be declared null and void. Hence, something needs to be done urgently.
