In the suit against the university filed in an Enugu State High Court siting in Nsukka, the plaintiff prays the court to grant an injunction preventing the university from further carrying out a controversial building project till the judge will deliver his judgement on the case.
According to the plaintiff who filed the case on behalf of himself and the community, the university has brought untold suffering and health hazard to his community.
The main reason for the suit against the university is the 11,900 rooms hostel embarked on by the university.
Hon Nnaemeka claims that the massive project has caused erosion which in turn led to stagnation of water that causes endless malaria in his community.
According to him, the university did not construct a drainage system before embarking on the project.
He therefore demands that the court order the defendant, University of Nigeria, Nsukka and Viagem Property and Investment Limited, to compensate the community with the sum of one hundred million naira (100,000,000) only.
The case was adjourned to 13th April, 2021, for further hearing.
