Over the times in Nigeria, we have been hearing it that civil servants are not eligible to become a member of any political party, civil servants are not expected to be partisan because they belong to any government that comes into power. This is not the case of one of the Nigerian University as he was seen displaying his membership card of a political party on the social media.
In the ongoing membership registration and revalidation of all the members of the ruling party in Nigeria, All Progressive Congress (APC), has witness a huge turn up by it loyal members to recommit their loyalty to the party.
One of those loyalist of All Progress Congress, is the current vice chancellor of Ekiti State University, Professor Eddy Olanipekun as he is usually called. Prof. Edward Olanipekun assumed the office of the Vice chancellor of Ekiti State University when the current Governor, Dr John Kayode Fayemi became Ekiti State Governor for the second term.
To recommitted his loyalty to his party, Prof. Eddy revalidated his membership and took a pictures of himself displaying his membership card. The picture was made available by the south west Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Lere Olayinka. See the post below;
Now I believe it is no more a crime for any civil servants to belong to any political party in Nigeria as far as a University VC can publicly displayed the party he belong to. Also to go far, you have to know someone who knows someone.
Below are some of the public opinions about what the VC has done;
