Zoning of political offices, according to Senator Ibrahim Gobir (APC-Sokoto), continues to be a fundamental prerogative of citizens in order to address sectoral democracy.
While briefing journalists in Sokoto, Senator Gobir of Sokoto East Senatorial District, Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, made the statement. Gobir represents the Sokoto East Senatorial District in the red chamber.
His contention is that any individual who asserts that zoning is not an option is also asserting that there is no need to locate other people who are interested in contesting and participating in democratic processes.
“I feel that we need to locate additional locations at the national level, not to mention the state and municipal government levels.
“Because we are all fighting for the same Nigeria and the same purpose, we cannot give more attention to one or more parts of the population while depriving the others of their rights.
In particular, he argued that every right, including political positions, should be shared equally. “As a result, zoning is a fundamental right for Nigerians in my opinion,” he stated.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward Congresses are scheduled to hold in the coming weeks, and Gobir stated that the Sokoto state chapter of the party was well prepared to guarantee that fairness and justice were served during the exercise.
According to the legislator, "We are attempting to see how a consensus will disclose the leaders of the party, but in regions where the consensus does not work, we will ensure that a free and fair election is held to choose the party's leaders."
When it came to security, he praised President Muhammadu Buhari and the country's security agencies for their dedication to maintaining peace in the country, while calling for even more commitment.
