Inside Story Of Why Buhari Refused To Endorse Akeredolu's 2nd Term Ambition

For Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, the past four days have been the most agonizing and traumatizing. The reason for this is not far-fetched.

The handwriting is already very visible on the wall that an end has come to his lifelong dream of "Project 4 + 4". The implication of this reality is that given the scenario currently playing out in Ondo State, he has not been able to muster support of the Presidency this time around.

Everywhere Akeredolu sought the much needed help, he simply met brick wall particularly from President Muhammadu Buhari who pointedly told him to his face that he has not been loyal.

For now, it appears to be a payback time for Aketi who reportedly worked against Buhari during the 2019 Presidential Election. The Governor had teamed up with another Party, Action Alliance (AA) under which he mobilized the state party structure to deny Buhari winning Ondo State, which painfully was the only Yoruba state not won by the President.

Ahead of the APC Governorship Primary Comintern up on Monday July 20, 2020, it was learnt that the President has already made clear the direction of where his support goes this time around.

To this end, the Party leaders both at the level of the interim National Caretaker Committee headed by Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni as well as other South West leaders, have been given marching orders to work for one of the aspirants, Engr. Ife Oyedele.

The APC National leader, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is also said to be involved and already towing this direction.

As at yesterday, the 11 other aspirants have been told in no clear term to forge an alliance with Engr. Oyedele who is expected to do the needful in terms of compensatory gestures.

It was learnt that this went down well with majority of the aspirants, out of deference to the President, even as one particular aspirant insisted on going ahead to test his popularity, given that he is no first timer in the race to become Governor.

For now, on paper, the aspirants already cleared to contest the Primary are; Rotimi Akeredolu, Joseph Olusola Iji, Odimayo Okunjimi, Olayide Owolabi Adelaml mni, Issacs Duerimini Kekemeke, Olusola Oke Alex, lfeoluwa Olusola Oyedele, and Olajumoke Olubusola Anifowoshe.

Others included Awodeyi Akinsehinwa Akinola Colinus, Olubukola Adetula, Dr Abraham Olusegun Michael and Dr Nathaniel Adojutelegan.

It is not immediately known what plan B option available to Akeredolu in other to actualise his dream.

Of this lot, all eyes are currently on the Okitipupa-born Engr. Ife Oyedele to deliver. Being a long standing associate of Buhari coming from the defunct Congress for Progressive Party (CPC) which formed an alliance with the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), out of which the present APC was formed, he had the honour of being the one who designed the current APC logo.

Oyedele is said to have by far the best Manifesto in terms of depth, his acceptability and visibility across all the 18 local government areas.

Apart from these, it was further learnt that the Last was impressed by his level of preparedness as he has already inaugurated a 400-member work group comprising of different high-calibre technocrats and politicians to actualise his mandate.
