Lauretta Onochie Calls Out CAN And APC Internal Wailers As She Shares Section 97 Of Electoral Act

A couple of hours ago, Lauretta Onochie, an aide to the President and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), lashed out at those frowning upon the Muslim Muslim Ticket of the party. Recall that the APC's decision to opt for an all Muslim Ticket has been heavily criticised by many Nigerians, including a section of the Christian Association of Nigeria, internal members of the party, as well as other political commentators.

However, Lauretta Onochie in a tweet on her verified Twitter handle, reminded the vocal minority that they could as well be imprisoned or pay a fine up to 1 million Naira if they keep on making comments based on religious and sectional sentiments. According to her, the vocal minority are made up of a section of the media, some political parties, some politically exposed individuals, a section of CAN, IPOB, APC Internal Wailers, etc.

Meanwhile, Section 97 of the Electoral Act, 2022, which Lauretta shared, detailed that people who campaign for or against a candidate in an election, based on religious or sectional reasons have committed a civil wrong, and are thus liable to imprisonment of 12 months or a maximum fine of 1 million Naira or both.
