Has The Philip Umeadi Suit Demanding Return of Emeka Ihedioha As Gov. Been Swept Under The Carpet?

Since Emeka Ihedioha was removed as the Executive Governor of Imo State by the Supreme Court about 18 months ago, many of his followers and admirers have continued to pray and hope that a miracle should happen for him to be reinstated as the duly elected Governor of Imo State. It should be recalled that since the infamous judgement that removed Ihedioha, several attempts have been made to bring him back, all to no avail.

Despite the failure of the move to bring Ihedioha back, his supporters have continued to hope that the suit filed by Chief Phillip Umeadi (SAN), has the potential to return Ihedioha to office. However, despite that the suit had been filed at the Supreme Court about a year ago, much has not been heard about it. With this, we may begin to wonder whether the Philip Umeadi suit against Governor Hope Uzodinma, has been swept under the carpet.

It should be recalled that the suit is demanding the sacking of Governor Hope Uzodinma, and the restoration of Emeka Ihedioha as the winner of the March 2019 Imo state governorship election. The suit, which is premised on the Supreme Court’s judgement on the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections, where the incumbent Governor lost his nomination for the same election that the Supreme Court declared him winner, is not in any way, an attempt to challenge the removal of Emeka Ihedioha.

Rather, it is a demand that the Apex Court should enforce its judgment. The suit was seen by many people, as the last hope for the potential return of Emeka Ihedioha as the Executive Governor of Imo State. However, several months later, nothing much has been said about it. It should be recalled that initially, the suit was alleged to have been scheduled for hearing on January 19, 2021. However, the day came and went, without the Apex Court calling up the suit.

In July, Daily Post reported that a reliable source from the Supreme Court had revealed that the suit would soon be scheduled for a hearing. Two months after the report, nothing else has been heard about the suit. With this in mind, one may not be wrong to conclude that perhaps, the Chief Phillip Umeadi suit demanding the sack of Governor Hope Uzodinma may have been swept under the carpet; hence the silence over it, despite having been filed over a year ago.
