Why PDP's Approval For North To Contest For Presidency Is A Fair And Wise Decision

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has once again displayed intelligence in their recent approval for a Northern candidate to contest the presidential race under their party. This decision came after the emergence of Senator Iyorchia Ayu as the consensus chairman of the party who happens to come from the North Central.

Obviously, the PDP has taken a very wise, decisive and important step towards a possible come back in 2023 with this decision. Why is the decision fair and wise? Without mincing words, this particular decision would pave the way for PDP resurgence in the next general election. To support my opinion, there are some points discussed religiously as follows.

Firstly, this decision brings about inclusiveness and a sense of belonging for all members of the party. It shuns the undemocratic song of zoning by many. The principle of Democracy entails that election of representatives to public offices must be done with no bias and should always reflect the choice of the people. Provision for the northerns as well as the southerns to contest for the PDP primaries open the floor for all and sundry to be part of the process, hence it makes it more democratic.

Unarguably, the PDP are keen on returning to their ruling days to contribute more to the country's growth and development. As such, avoidance of internal crisis is an important instrument towards their struggle. Granting all members an opportunity to contest for presidential primaries is a key way of ensuring that no party stakeholder is left out of the next presidential project. This would help to avoid internal party rift as all individuals regardless of their zone are part of the electoral process. For a party that is struggling for a comeback, internal crisis would bid their struggle farewell. For a house divided against itself can't stand.
