As much as I had expected, he returned like a roaring lion with a mandate to return Edo to the ruling party. It was a well strategized outing with a grand plan to disqualify the sitting governor and deputy from contesting the 19th September Governorship election in the state.
The reason for this vote canvassing at this time cannot be far-fetched. In less than two weeks there has been a gale of decamping from the APC to the PDP in droves. It's very likely that thousands may dump the APC to pitch their tent in the opposition with their governor.
The recent solidarity rally organize by Adam Oshiomole on Saturday to win the peoples sympathy for his candidate ,Ize Iyamu ,had been greeted with lots of condemnation from Edolites.
The legal fireworks kindled by the APC is indeed according to many Edolites an exercise in futility. The governor and his deputy cannot be disqualified from contesting this election. I stand to be corrected. This issue of certificate forgery had been acquitted by the court before. So,I foresee this legal battle against the governor and his deputy as nothing but a waste of time and distraction.
Adams Oshiomole did not challenge his suspension that has tendered him a common card carrier in the APC, rather he was venting his spleen that he regretted making Obaseki the governor. All powers belong to God.
Right now the new mantra in the Edo 2020 election is " Obaseki All The Way." The people of Edo are chanting "Edo is not Lagos." " Edo is not Lagos" is a reference to how the political godfather of Lagos removed governor Akinwunmi Ambode from office during the last election in the State when the direct voting was adopted. The same rule had been used by Oshiomole and his National Working Committee of the APC to screen out the sitting governor from participating in the 2020 gubernatorial election. The people of Edo are saying " No To godfatherism."
I cannot blame Comrade Adams Oshiomole for going to war against his estranged political godson at this point in time. He understands the dangers that lies ahead if Godwin Obaseki is returned for a second time in office. It's a solo war. I had expected other high profile members of the party to accompany Adams Oshiomole on Saturday to the rally. It's like some of this APC juganuts have distanced themselves from the political godfather of Edo politics.
Adams Oshiomole will not relent in this war. While governors Ganduje and Wike are still in the winning strategy planning rooms, the consequences of the forerunner's rally campaign will soon be glaring to all and sundry.
It is very clear that Adams Oshiomole had lost touch with the realities of ground and with the new disposition of the Edo people concerning this epochial election. He had not deemed it fit to launder the image of his candidate whom he had called a thief and someone that cannot be trusted with public funds. No apology was tendered. His mission was to discredit a sitting governor who he could not accuse of malfeasance.
This man and his political godson both have cases bordering on impropriety in the courts. So on what moral ground should he dissuade the people of Edo State from votting for a man he had once presented to the people of Edo as the best nannfir the job when his tenure expires in 2016 The people of Edo seems to be in love with Godwin Obaseki whom they called " The performing governor."
It is very unfortunate that his ward 07 in Estako local government did not seem it fit as a matter of urgency to unsuspend this man. His voice would have been weighty if he had been restored as the National Chairman of the party. He has lost that respect and followership.
I foresee more people decamping to the PDP because of this campaign of calumny. Sometimes and in most times, Providence rules in the affairs of men. By the time Ganduje and his team will storm Edo State to rally support for Pastor Ize Iyamu, they would realize that the damage had been done. The population of APC members would have been drastically reduced with the ongoing season of defection.
